INDELIBLE FINE ART • BRIGHTON

Heather x Jesse

Indelible Fine Art is hosting this page and exhibition in support of Heather’s tribute to her friend Jesse. It exists as a place for remembrance, and to point anyone affected by mental health struggles towards support and resources.

The presentation is accompanied by selected works by other artists, including Alan Davie, Trevor Bell, Adrian Heath and Simeon Stafford.

Words from Heather

The following text appears word for word as written by Heather.

Jesse was my friend. He was bright, cheeky, thoughtful, funny, creative and full of style - the kind of person who made you feel lucky just being in his presence. He went back to the universe July 2018, and I think about him every day.

It's hard to write about this without feeling like words fall short. But I don't want him to be reduced to a sad ending. Jesse's identity was huge, he was deeply loved, and he left his mark on the people around him in a massive way.

He loved fashion, art (especially graffiti) and music. Graffiti was our shared passion. He customised trainers through his business Step Correct. I'm so proud of him for doing that. It takes bravery to let loose on something pristine. That's bravery I didn't always have but he encouraged me.

I hope this page does two things - remembers him with the respect he deserves and reminds whoever is reading this that you can do anything you put your mind to. And if you are lucky enough to find someone who truly believes in you, hold on to them tight. Sometimes that's all you need.

BILLBOARD

The Billboard

The billboard is presented as a public tribute — not sensationalised, but intentional: a visible moment of remembrance, and a prompt to take mental health seriously, for ourselves and for the people around us.

ABOUT

About Heather

Heather

Heather is a canal artist working in the traditional Roses & Castles style. Her practice sits within a living heritage craft — defined by bold colour, disciplined ornament, and a pride in making beauty where it’s least expected.

This project brings together personal remembrance and public-facing craft, hosted by Indelible Fine Art in Brighton.

CONTEXT

Context

This page and presentation were created to hold the story in a calmer, more respectful space — away from noise, speculation, or online pile-ons. The focus remains on remembrance, and on encouraging people to take mental health seriously.

It is not about blame or drama. It is about care, community, and directing attention to support.

TRADITION

Roses & Castles

Roses & Castles is a traditional form of narrowboat decoration, historically painted for working canal communities. It is recognised as an endangered heritage craft, kept alive by a small number of practising artists in the UK.

Heather was taught by Phil Speight MBE, one of the UK’s most respected boat painters.
